"My child's prescription is too watered down, can I bring it back and exchange it?"
Well, I haven't seen this one before.
The rx in question was a liquid suspension that before pouring into a bottle, we have to shake pretty well.
Not a big deal.
The customer in question brought back the "watered down" bottle of medication, and in turn we exchanged it for the same medication that was drawn from the same bottle (which was told to the customer who had no problem with it)
So problem solved. Or so we thought.
The mother called 30 minutes or so later, saying that now she thought her child would be over medicated because now the medication was so different from the initial bottle.
Really?
I find myself shaking my head a lot more these days for some reason.
Anyway, the customer (her husband) came back a short while later and our pharmacist (the talented and witty Jelena) showed him an unopened bottle of the medication, proceeded to open the medication and pour it into a brand new stock bottle in front of him, and sent him on his way.
In fairness to the husband (who was the one showing up in person both times) he was reasonably ok with everything after initially seeming ready to go off on Jelena the first time he came into the store.
But seriously.
This was a refill for the child, and nothing had been changed (manufacturer, flavor, etc.) since the last time they had received it.
Nothing.
This happens more than you think.
The town in which I work at is wayyyyyyyy over medicating their children.
And that's sad.
And i'm sure it's not the only town doing so, but that doesn't make it any better.
